- Best for simple projects with budgets under $10,000. (Click here if you have a bigger budget, and you want landscape design and project management.)
Now that our 2026 planting season is over, we are busy creating a form for Pocket Gardens that will include sample photos and breakdowns of your choices, and how they will affect your price-per-square-foot. (Choices like: what garden style do I want? How dense shall we plant? What kind of mulch?). It will also include advice on how to prepare your existing yard. We should have the form finished by December 2027.
In the meantime, you can let us know if you’re interested in a Pocket Garden, and we’ll contact you when you can sign up.

RLD is offering two types of Pocket Gardens in 2027:
- OPTION 1: Humming Habitats
- We provide native plants that are low-water, low-maintenance, pollinator-friendly, and customized to you and your yard. Flowers and groundcovers provide seasonal blooms and beautiful textures year-around.
- Each package comes with plants, mulch, biodegradable weed barrier, and labor.
- We do the plant arrangement, planting, mulching, etc for you. Or, for a lower cost, we can work alongside you and your household/community.
- Fill out our educational form to determine your style of pollinator garden!
- OPTION 2: Low-Water No-Mow Lawns
- Native and xeric lawns that require little or no water, maintenance, or mowing.
- RLD provides the grass plugs or seed, add-ons to help the grass thrive, and labor.
- For a lower cost, we can plant alongside you, your household, or your community.
- Choose between buffalo grass or Dog Tuff grass for sun, and sheep fescue or native fescues for part shade.
Contact us if interested for 2027.
FAQ
I’m confused about exactly what the Pocket Garden does and doesn’t do. Can you explain it more?
Each Pocket Garden is best for a single part of your landscape (e.g. “fill this 10×20 area with plants). The form will ask you questions about your landscape (e.g. square footage, sun vs shade, etc). It’ll then walk you through a set of choices about your landscape, and show you how various choices could affect your price per square foot.
There are some things not included: irrigation, hardscaping, earthworks/water management, etc.. If you have a budget under $10k and you need help with those elements, we encourage you to contact other landscapers in the area. We can also give you recommendations for contractors if you book a site visit.
I’m not sure where to start with my yard. There are a lot of different areas to it, and/or I’d like advice on how to design my landscape as a whole. What would you suggest?
You might want to book a site visit with us! We can offer you advice, perspective, and some follow-up resources afterwards.
For more than that: We are limiting full design and planning packages to clients with budgets of $10,000 or more. Contact us if you’re interested in that.
What do you mean by “plants customized to my yard?”
We will be selecting native plants that are a good fit for your microclimate (sun vs shade vs part shade, etc). We will also be incorporating your preferences, as much as we can, within the constraints of nursery availability. In the form, you’ll be able to request plants of a certain color scheme, favorite plants or types of plants that you know you’d love, plants of a certain height or height variance, etc.. The Pocket Gardens are replacing the Garden In A Truck service, but you can check out the GIAT form to get a sense of the questions we’ll ask you. It’ll be an improved version of that form.
Is this kind of like a “Garden In A Box” but with planting?
Yes! It’s just designed for areas that are too big for an average Garden In A Box. We can bring a lot of plants, at lower cost per plant, and customize the plants to your preferences and your yard. We also do the plant arrangement, mulching, and provide a customized plant palette.
